About
Grant
The Basics
If you hadn't guessed, my name
is Grant Armstrong. I was born in Bloomington, IL
on May 28, 1976 to Grethe and Donald Armstrong. I am a graduate
of Illinois State University. My course of study there was Mass
Communication with a concentration on Broadcast Journalism and a minor in
Psychology. Yes, my past is filled with various TV and Radio gigs.
I've also done a little educating. I've worked in publishing. Much to
the surprise of many whom I've grown up with, I now serve as Director of
Youth at
Christ United Methodist Church in Fairview Heights while attending
Eden Theological Seminary.
Loves of My Life
Jesus Christ:
What can I say about my Lord, Savior, God, and King? I am richly blessed, and all praise and thanks go to God!
Mrs. Amy Ann Armstrong: My blushing
bride. We were married on May 20, 2000. She is the woman of my
dreams, and the key to my happiness. Words cannot express the
joy she brings me. We reside in Fairview Heights, a Metro-East
St. Louis community near Belleville where she is an itinerant teacher for a
special services cooperative. I'm very proud of who she is and what she
does. She truly inspires.
Lillian
Sorena Armstrong: The cutest and sweetest little girl in the
world. I don't think I did anything especially good in life to deserve such
a wonderful little monkey, but she is the best. She's growing up so fast!
Family: My parents are
some wonderful folks. My father is a retired electrician
(formerly through IBEW #197 out of Bloomington), but as busy as ever. He is a
member of the Optimists, a volunteer fireman, and an all
around great guy. My mother has retired from
a long and wonderful career teaching for Unit 5. Both are fully enjoying retirement!
My sister, Britta Armstrong-Mitchell works for
Unit 5 Schools. She is a Kindergarten teacher at
Prairieland Elementary. She is my elder, and is
married to a great guy named Bruce Mitchell. She and her husband have a beautiful
son, born on March 3, 2001. Amy and I are Brennan's Godparents! There are many more members of this family,
but only so much disk space. If there is any doubt, I love them all!
Church:
I now happen to work where I worship, at Christ
United Methodist Church in Fairview Heights. God has given me
opportunities to grow in the church as a bassist for the praise band, a leader for the Passion Peanuts 3&4 year old youth group,
a student in the Disciple I class, a pilgrim in the Walk to Emmaus, a
participant in the No Greater Love Mardi Gras mission, a Senior High Sunday School teacher,
Director of Children's Ministries, and currently, Director of Youth. Add in
volleyball, softball, basketball, and all around fine fellowship, and you've got yourself a good time. "God is good! All the time!"
My Goals
I am working to discern God's will for my life,
now through the very structured process of theological education and the UMC
ministry inquiry process.
I am prayerfully examining ways in which I can become the most effective minister I am created to be for Christ.
Otherwise, Amy and I are enjoying each other, our home, and our
baby-to-be! And, though I hate to rescind the invitation, the guest
room is gradually transforming into a nursery! We were glad for the company
while we had the space. The couch is still available!
Anything else at this point must be left for
speculation. As always, I look forward to some wonderful times.
